PROBLEM STATEMENT

Moisture can lead to spoil perishables, mold buildup, and other negative consequences.

Current dehumidifiers are large and are meant for large spaces. The size prevents for ease of transportation, storage, and versatile usage.

FINDING OPPORTUNITY 

Dehumidifiers removes moisture from the air that can be detrimental to the user and the environment. This prevents the growth of mold and dust that can be harmful to a wide range of individuals.

How can we encourage the usage of dehumidifiers in different environments?

Existing dehumidifiers are large and bulky with a variety of features that are not immediately intuitive.

The form of dehumidifiers are often intimating and obtrusive that doesn’t encourage user interaction.

Most are also meant for large areas that are not targeted for small spaces or ease of mobility.

INITIAL IDEATION

Quick ideation lead me to gear towards cylindrical forms. These sketches focused on how to integrate removal excess water, user interface, and attachments.

Detail refinement was conducted in Rhinoceros and Keyshot to test out color, form, and attachments

PROTOTYPING

3D printed parts were made in order to test component fitting and the overall size of the product.

RUBBERIZED BOTTOMS

The DRI's bottom lid features an attached rubber ring to ensure stable placement when it is set down.

TOP HOOKS

C-Hooks rest on the top of the lid, allowing users to flip them up when in use and then set them down when not needed.

VERSATILE FUNCTION

The C-Hooks serve multiple purposes, functioning as both hangers for DRI and convenient handles for easy transportation.

RAISED MAGENTS

Elevated magnets enable the DRI to be suspended on metallic surfaces, providing a space-saving storage solution, keeping it conveniently out of the way.

ON/OFF BUTTON

The on/off button is conveniently positioned at the center of DRI's lid for easy access and user convenience.

FABRIC PROTECTION

DRI is equipped with two protection barriers. The two-level barrier is designed to prevent both small and large particles from entering its circuits.

LED LIGHTS

DRI features a battery level indicator with four LED lights on both sides. To safeguard against water damage, the motherboard is discreetly positioned on the external wall of the water vent.

ULTRASONIC SENSOR

The ultrasonic sensor in DRI detects when the water has reached its maximum level, preventing overflow.
